Videator contains tools that allow you to improvise with live or recorded video in a performance setting. Here are some tips and hints.
You’ll need a video projector (and a surface to project on). Set the projector’s output to not mirror the primary display (in Apple’s System Preferences application, choose Displays, go to the Arrangement tab, and make sure Mirror Displays in unchecked). This will allow you to put Videator into full-screen mode on the projector while continuing to manipulate effects using Videator’s interface on your computer’s display.
To get a feel for what you can do, select Effects -> Andrew's VJ Effects and move your hand over the built-in iSight camera if your computer has one, or try pointing your external video camera at different subjects.
Use the Effects Queue to pre-program and easily apply sequences of effects.
Use Effects->Add Random Effects. You have complete control over what kind of effects are added (Preferences:Random). Try selecting only the Tile, Color Effect and Distortion sets, and then selecting Effects->Add Random Effects several times in a row to get interesting overlaid dynamic effects. |
